WHORE OF BABYLON | A Horror/Grindhouse Graphic Novel

Created by Joseph Schmalke

Cherry Blackbird made a deal with the Devil for fame. The day she turns 27, she'll be dragged to Hell. But she's not one to go quietly.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Carpe Noctem is coming February 1st.

Hi all,

Welcome to 2019.  Most of you have received your books (or should have at this rate, and if you haven't please let me know).  The only people that should be waiting on rewards are those who got sketch covers (and all of those are currently being worked on). Thank you all so much, I hope you love Cherry Blackbird

On February 1st at 10:00 a.m. EST I'm launching a kickstarter for CARPE NOCTEM a horror coffee table art book. You might remember that all physical backers for Cherry Blackbird received a sketchbook from backing my last campaign titled Carpe Noctem 2017 inktober.   That was my first inktober sketch book.  This year I upgraded my inktober work and produced an 11x17" pin up each day.

Carpe Noctem

Carpe Noctem (translation: seize the night) will be a 11"x17", 32 page, full color, deluxe format coffee table art book. I want to present these pieces of artwork to you the way they were intended to be seen...in a large print format. With your backing I can bring this art book to life and you will have a physical copy mailed to your front door. You win, I win, horror wins, the world wins!

Unlike my past campaigns on Kickstarter I have a printer ready for production and the work for this book has already been produced so I can turn it around quickly (as soon as the campaign ends I can send it to the printer).  As a bonus all backers will be able to get a Kickstarter Exclusive cover featuring the Invisible Man, and all first 48 hour backers will receive a bonus gift (so get on the bus early for this exclusive and limited gift).

*I also have some cool rewards in store for everyone including movie sized posters of both covers.

I'm hoping you will all help bring this book to life and I appreciate all your continued support.   Talk to you all again real soon.

P.S.
A reminder that my studio mates are running kickstarters from now till April.  Right now you can get in on Dylan's Kickstarter ARCHIVE The Warhood Odyssey #5.  If you liked 1 through 4 you should probably figure out how the story continues.  Ben Bishop recently released the sketch for his variant cover. Check it out.

Year-end wrap up.

Shipping is done... as of right... NOW.

It's been a long road, but we have reached the conclusion. Lots of you are already enjoying your books and I'm getting some really great feedback. For the rest of you, your books are on their way. To our friends overseas... I'm not sure how long 1st class shipping takes, but its possible you could all have your books before the new year. I want to thank you all for your patience while I finished up this graphic novel.

The Electric Black is coming.

If you haven't heard already, Rich Woodall and I have signed a contract with Scout Comics to put out a quarterly horror anthology comic called the Electric Black. It will hit shelves nationwide in April. No Kickstarter required, all you have to do is tell your local comic book store to order you a copy.

The Electric Black, tells about a cursed antique shop, appearing in any time or space, soliciting customers it hungers to corrupt or devour. The mysterious Julius Black is our narrator and the store's demonic proprietor. With the help of his psychopathic employees, he manipulates patrons for his own devious purposes. Inside the eerie emporium, all the forbidden objects have secrets to unlock-- macabre mysteries, grisly murders, and other frightful occurrences. The poor souls that enter never leave without something. Do you dare to step within the sinister halls of the Electric Black?

Also in 2019...

My studio mates and I (as well as my writing partner Rich) have a few Kickstarter projects coming out next year.

January: Dylan Andrews comes out with his NEW Archive the Warhood comic.

February: I will be putting out a new sketchbook (Carpe Noctem) containing my Inktober art. It's an 11x17 inch 32-page full color coffee table book.

March: Ben Bishop will crowd source his new split decision graphic novel the AGGREGATE 2.

April: And finally, Rich Woodall will be launching his new comic book Sgt. Werewolf.

I'll wheel back around and let you all know when those projects launch. In the meantime, I can be found on Facebook or Instagram making art and drinking beer. Talk to you soon and happy holidays to all of you.

Hi all,

Just wanted to give you an update that your packages should arrive before the holidays. About 95% of the shipping is now complete and I'm hoping to have it finished completely by Friday. Thank you so much for your support. I hope you love the book. I put a lot of time and effort into it, and I think it shows.

I want each and every one of you to be completely satisfied, so If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to drop me a line directly.

Next year, keep your eyes peeled for a new book I've been working on with Rich Woodall. It's called the Electric Black and it's being published by Scout Comics! You'll be able to order it from your local comic shop... how cool is that? No Kickstarter necessary. Also in the works is my new Inktober book, which I'll be putting out in February. In the meantime, you can always find me on Facebook and Instagram. Rest assured, I'll keep you updated on the details.

Happy Holidays,
Joe

Kickstarter backers, here's an update for you! Copies of Cherry Blackbird are back from the printers, and they. look. fantastic. Once I'm back in Maine next week, if you haven't picked them up already, your backer packages will start to go out!

As for now, I am at NYCC today through Sunday. Find me at Booth #1138 in the small press section, right through the main doors. I'll have prints, copies of The Infernal Pact, and of course, copies of CHERRY BLACKBIRD.

I'm also excited to announce that on Sunday I will be at Scout Comics' booth #950, signing preview copies of my next project, The Electric Black, with my collaborator Rich Woodall, from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

And finally, it's October, my favorite time of the year. That means it's also INKTOBER! Follow me on Instagram or Facebook for all the horror goodness. This week's theme is Monsters of Rock!

Hope to see you soon!

Cheers,
Joe
